Bonnie Brae Historic Past
Bonnie Braeis one of Denver’s most charming neighborhoods, which grew substantially during the 1930s and 1940s. Many luxury homes from this period remain, mixed with newer more modest homes, giving it an attractive style all its own, a mix of traditional ranch styles, Tudor, Colonial, Art Deco and modern minimalist designs, in an area dominated by leafy winding streets, just a short walk from Washington Park and only a few miles from Cherry Creek Shopping Center. The adjacent neighborhood of Belcaro is also one of Denver’s more upscale and fashionable areas, with spacious lots and a mix of traditional early 20th century homes, sprawling 1960s ranch-style houses and new custom built modern homes set among mature trees and expansive lawns. It has the quiet charm you would expect of a neighborhood that has long been the home of the wealthy, built around the historic Phipps Mansion. This fine red brick Georgian building, now the property of the University of Denver, lends its style and distinction to a much sought after area of the city.
Today, Bonnie Brae is well known for its quircky shopping district as well as its display of stately, historic homes.
