This beautiful, rustic town, about 20 miles south and west of Denver on highway 285, is a quiet community of high mountain meadows and majestic mountain views. Conifer is tucked in between the vast spaces of Arapaho and Pike National Forests under the shadow of Mount Evans and other towering Rocky Mountain peaks.
Native American tribes including the Ute and Cheyenne used to hunt on this land. Prospectors and mountain men have used Conifer as a base of operations. The area is home to many species of wildlife and wildflowers including deer, elk, coyotes, foxes, moose, mountain lions, and various birds. Quiet, beautiful and majestic, Conifer is magnificent during all seasons and especially as the aspen trees change colors during the famous Colorado fall. The settlement of Conifer began as a small stop on a stagecoach road and was known by a different name. By 1920, the town had grown and was known by its current name of Conifer.
