Park Hill neighborhood spans from Colorado Blvd to Quebec St and from Colfax north to 52nd Street. The neighborhood is known for its beautiful, tree-lined streets, which surround historical brick homes. And while it is a neighborhood apart from the city, it is a short distance to downtown, as well as nearby to City Park, Denver Zoo and the Museum of Nature and Science. Park Hill begun as a camp for the Colorado National Guard during the Spanish-American War and soon after the troops left homes were built there in the early 1900s. The neighborhood attracted settlers from around the world - from England, Denmark, Germany, and Italy.
Soon after World War II the mayor of Colorado improved the discriminatory housing laws to allow African Americans to move to new subdivisions opening in the neighborhood. Park Hill neighborhood became an important place for racial equality in Colorado - in 1973 Park Hill parents fought the Supreme Court against discrimination in Denver Public School system and won.
